After the Farm
After the farm, Rachel and I headed an hour south of Barcelona to a town called Salou for a few days of RnR. Four months ago, when we decided to take this trip, my parents offered to let us use one of their timeshare weeks. We resisted because we didn’t know our itinerary, didn’t want to be locked down, and wanted to have an “authentic” experience. Well, we got our authentic experience on the farm, and when they offered again, we snatched it right up.
Salou is a quiet beach town, made even quieter by the winter. But it wasn’t the city that we were there for - it was the accommodation. After twelve days on the farm, a washing machine, a warm bed and a twenty minute hot shower felt like heaven. I took as many showers in the first twelve hours (3) as I did in twelve days on the farm. Rachel washed all of our clothes… twice.
Clean, warm and rested, we headed to San Sebastian for three nights.
We found a great place to stay via AirBnB. For $33/night we slept in the spare bedroom in the apartment of a couple named Angela & Iñigo. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. They invited us to join them and their friends for dinner on our first night in town. They made recommendations on how to make the most of our short time in the city. We wouldn’t have had nearly as enjoyable of an experience had we not stayed with someone who could point us in the right direction.
San Sebastian is also a beach town, but it is anything but quiet. San Sebastian is best known for its food. With more Michelin stars per square meter than any other city, it is considered by some to be the contemporary culinary capital of the world. The food was so incredible that it deserves its own post.
Until then, munch on some pictures of this breathtakingly beautiful city.
